Multilingual Haikus

As part of Blogathon 2011, many of us are writing haikus today. Here are a multilingual few — thanks to everyone who contributed!

Swahili, by Edmund Blair Bolles

mimi mwalimu
wanafunzi walisema
mambo mengini
(I’m a teacher my students have told me many things)

English, by Jon Lee

in a deep, wet world
the silent sea life looks up
at the frozen sky

Spanish, by yours truly

la luz del dia
ilumina claridad
y da fe, por fin
(the light of day brings clarity and faith, at last)

Oh, and you really must check out these haikus by Joshua Beckman and Minoru Ozawa that were read at the launch of Monkey Business: New Writing from Japan. I just got my copy of this publication and so look forward to reading it…

Care to share your own haiku (in any language)? Please do, in a comment…
