I am so very pleased to announce that I will be given the 2012-2013 Alicia Gordon Award for Word Artistry in Translation at the upcoming 53rd Annual Conference of the American Translators Association!

What an honor…

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Alicia Gordon in person, but I do remember her perceptive questions and exchanges on the Spanish division listserv Espalista, and when news came of her untimely death. It was a shock to the community and, by all accounts, a true loss.

The award was set up by Alicia’s sister, Dr. Jane Gordon, and is given each year to

“The translation that, in the opinion of the judges,
demonstrates the highest level of artistry in translation…”

It is truly special to be recognized in this way.

Will you be at the conference? Do join me at the Annual Meeting of All Members on Friday, October 26, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., when the award will be presented. Oh, and if you can, take a picture so we can post it here later!
