I’ve known for a couple of months and it has taken every ounce of self-restraint not to tell you, but today it’s official:

My translation of The Einstein Engima, a novel by José Rodrigues dos Santos, has made the longlist for The 2012 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award!

That sound you hear all over the globe is me whooping with glee!

I honestly never thought one of my translations would be nominated for an award — not because they don’t deserve one, no! They do! — but simply because awards were never on my radar. To be nominated for this one takes my breath away.

The IMPAC Dublin is the largest, most international prize of its kind and of particular note to translators because the €100,000 prize is split 75/25% between author and translator.

Who knows whether José and I will make the short list (announced April 2012), let alone win the award (announced June 2012), but I promise to keep you posted.

For now, check out my press release and join me in a toast to celebrate this honor.
